On June 24, U-1225 is attacked by a Canadian "Canso" patrol plane to the northwest of Bergen, Norway. The attacking Canadian aircraft is badly hit by the sub's anti-aircraft guns and crashes but not before sinking the U-Boat. Flt Lt David Hornell RCAF, pilot of the "Canso" of No 162 Squadron, Coastal Command, is posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross.
