Naval Headlines: July-August, 1944

July 5th - After attacking a convoy off Normandy, U-390 is sunk by destroyer Wanderer and frigate Tavy.

July 6th - In a convoy attack off Beachy Head, U-678 is lost to Canadian destroyers Ottawa and Kootenay and British corvette Statice.

    - Escort Group 11, including HMCS Ottawa and Kootenay sink U-678 after a 13 hour hunt

July 7 - Escort Group 12 attacks three German surface vessels escorting U-Boats out of Brest. In the fighting 14 of HMCS Skeena's crew are wounded and one German ship sunk

July 8 - Restigouche rescues survivors of U-243, sunk by aircraft

July 24 Skeena is attacked by German planes and glider bomb

August 8, On patrol in the Bay of Biscay, St. Laurent suffers a near miss by German glider bomb. The same day HMCS Regina is sunk by U-667

August 12-13 Escort Group 12 is in action against 3 German armed trawlers near Brest attempting to resupplying troops on Audierne Bay. HMCS Qu'Apelle and Skeena collide, with minor damage

August 13 HMCS St. Laurent picks up crew of U-270, sunk by aircraft

August 18, HMCS Restigouche helps sink U-621 near the mouth of the Gironde River, with help from HMCS Chaudiere, Kootenay, and Ottawa
