Good ideas, Sailor, but not good enough!

The submarine is so close to your ship that your big guns cannot aim low enough to hit it - and the sub's main cannon is so low to the water, it has a point-blank shot at your ship! At the moment your ship is too close to the sub for you to safely launch depth charges. Your torpedoes have a safety device that prevents them from exploding within 500 yards of your ship. As well, on the surface the sub is almost as fast as your ship and it turns much more quickly so it would be a very difficult target. If you go to full speed to pull away quickly, you could become the target for the sub's torpedoes! While you've been fumvling for answers, the U-Boat has gone to Full Speed to stay as close to you as possible, and its gun crew is preparing to fire. At this point blank range the U-Boat's cannon could destroy your ship in minutes!

The running gun battle continues. The sub does not try to dive - likely because that makes it any easy target for a depth charge attack. On the surface the sub is almost as fast as your ship, and it has a smaller turning circle. Your captain does not want the sub to get a good line for a torpedo shot, and the sub wants to stay close enough to your ship to avoid shells from your cannons. However, the u-boat's cannon has started to do serious damage. One of your gun turrets is out of action. There is a fire amidships on your deck, and cannon shells are whistling around the bridge where your captain is.

What should your captain do?

A. Make a full speed turn away from the u-boat. Fire depth charges and stern cannons. Create a smoke screen, and try to escape before your ship is damaged further.

B. Continue to stay close, keep firing as long as your can, and try to get other escort ships to come to your help.

C. Try using a series of emergency turns to see if you can line the u-boat up, and then ram it, to cut it in half. This will cause major damage to the bow of your ship. But it might work.
