May 13th: All Axis forces surrender in North Africa

The German and Italian forces in North Africa are sandwiched between the Britsh 8th Army to the east and the British-American 1st Army to the west. Over 300,000 men of the German Afrika Corps and the Italian 1st Army are trapped at Tunis and forced to surrender. This is the first major victory for the Western Allies.
