1942 End of Year Shipping Losses Report

1942 was a disastrous year for the Allied convoys and escorts. The U-boats' offensive against the east coast of North America has been tremendously successful. British Prime Minister Winston Churchill secretly fears that Germany will win the war by starving the British people of essential supplies. There cannot be any realistic plans for an Allied invasion of Western Europe until the U-Boat attacks can be neutralized. In all, in 1942, the U-Boats sink an astonishing 6,249,000 tons of Allied shipping!
