The Battle of Midway: June 4-5, 1942 Using intercepted Japanese codes, three American aircraft carriers and the surviving warships from the Pearl Harbor attack intercept a major Japanese invasion fleet near the island of Midway in the Pacific. For the first time, two fleet battle entirely by aircraft attackes. Waves of aircraft from each side struggle to find the enemy but in American dive bombers cripple or sink four Japanese carriers - all veterans of the Pearl Harbor raid. The Americans lose only one carrier in return. Midway was a serious set-back for the Japanese and a major morale booster for the Americans. Here is a short video clip on the Battle of Midway.
