Test: Heavy Fog

The convoy is in heavy fog. In one sense this is good. The U-Boats will never see you. However this is also a very tense time. The convoy is following a zig-zag pattern but the fog prevents ships from co-ordinating their turns. The danger of collision is very high. The ships are using fog horns to identify their positions, but even this gets confusing. Suddenly you hear a very loud horn on your port side. Everyone on deck is shocked to see the bows of a merchant ship heading right for your side! The collision could cut you right in half!!!!

What should the captain order?

A. Use your Aldis lamps to signal the other ship to turn hard to Port and sound your horns.

B. Order Engineering to stop all engines. Drop the anchor chains to help slow you down

C. Order the steersman to make an emergency turn to Port. Order Engineering to give full power to the Starboard propeller while reversing the Port one. Sound your horn in the hope that the other ship will respond.

D. Order the steersman to make an emergency turn to Starboard. Order Engineering to give full power to the Port propeller while reversing the Starboard one. Sound your fog horn in the hope that the other ship will respond
