Due to a mix-up in signals British cruiser Calcutta rams HMCS Fraser just in front of her bridge. Fraser is sunk and 45 die. The surviving crew were later transferred to HMCS Margaree which was sunk 4 months later in another collision

War Headline: August to October.

The huge air battles of the Battle of Britain are at their peak intensity. A German victory here could lead to an assault on British beaches by thousands of German landing craft. The navy's role would be to oppose this invasion down to the last ship.
