Naval Headlines: September to December, 1939
Oct 15: HMCS Fraser and St. Laurent are part of the screening force for huge gold bullion convoy headed to Canada
Oct 23: HMCS Saguenay intercepts the German tanker Emmy Friedrich. The crew scuttles the ship to prevent it from falling into Canadian hands.
Nov 14: HMCS Fraser is in a minor collision with HMCS Bras d'Or
Nov 6: HMCS St Laurent escorts HMS Ascania, carrying 2 million Pounds in gold to Canada for safekeeping.
Dec 10th: HMCS Laurent, Fraser, and two other RCN destroyers escort "TC1" - Troop Convoy Number One, carrying 7,400 men of the First Canadian Division to Great Britain
