Reference: A Canadian soldier's equipment

A typical Canadian infantryman's kit would include shirt, pants, suspenders, equipment belt, socks, puttees ( to protect the ankles and seal off the pants legs), boots, jacket, overcoat, waterproof poncho/cape, steel helmet, gas mask/respirator, haversack, cooking gear, canned and dry rations, canteen, bedroll, 60 rounds of ammunition, bayonet in a scabbard, and a rifle.

All of this would weigh a minimum of 45 lbs.
