Decision: D-Day Weather Forecasting

The Allied commanders have spent 6 months planning the greatest amphibious invasion ever. They plan to use 5,000 ships to transport 150,000 soldiers to the beaches of Normandy to begin the invasion of Nazi Germany. The invasion depends on good weather to deliver the troops and tanks safety to the beaches. The invasion is scheduled for June 3rd " A-Day" but bad weather may force a postponement. The next good weather day is June 6th - but weather forecasters warn of a major storm within a few days, by June 10th.

The Meteorlogical Officer has three suggestions, depending how fast the storm develops:

- attack on June 3rd as planned and hope the weather isn't as rough as predicted

- attack on June 6th and hope the invasion makes good progress before the June 10th storm hits

- postpone the attack until later in June

What should the Allies do?

Attack on June 3rd

Attack on June 6th

Postpone the invasion
