The best answer is A. Call your fighters back, but leave two pairs to monitor the 109s. Your main mission is to protect the bombers. The destruction they will cause to the German rail system is far more important than a few more 109s shot down.

Ramrod Test #2

The B-26 bombers you are escorting have completed their bomb run. A German rail yard is in ruins! The bombers climb to 6,000 metres, pick up speed and head home as quickly as they can. While flying close escort your wingman sees six Fw 190s 2,000 metres below you, cruising along. They are sitting ducks!

What should you do?

A. Ignore them. They are no threat and your main mission is to get the bombers back to base safely.

B. This is too good an opportunity to miss. The bombers are headed home safely and here are six top-of the line German planes begging to be shot down. Order the entire wing to attack! Wipe out the German flight.

C. Try to balance the two goals. Order three pairs of your fighters to make a hit and run diving attack on the German planes. After their one attack run they are to rejoin the formation. Everyone else stays in escort position.
