The correct answer is C. Your plane has retractable landing gear. You have to remember to raise it after take-off and lower it before landing. This is a rookie mistake! If you don't retract the gear after take off, the wheels and struts create more air resistance as you are flying. Even more embarassing, if you forget to lower your gear on landing your plane will "pancake" - sliding along the runway on its belly and damaging the propeller, and engine. Oops!

Service Flight Training Test #6

It's time you learned some basic navigation. Here are some basic navigation terms: "Green" means "Starboard" - to the right of the current course. "Red" means "Port" - to the left of the current course. 90 degrees means a right-angle turn. 180 degrees means a complete u-turn. "Angels" refers to altitude in thousands of feet.

You are flying level at 5,000 feet. Your compass heading is 270 degrees ( almost due West). Your base controller instructs you to change course to Angels 12, turning Green 80 degrees.

How has your course changed?

A. Your plane is now headed almost due South at 17,000 feet altitude.

B. Your plane is now headed almost due North at 12,000 feet altitude

C. Your plane is now headed Northwest at 12,000 altitude
