Elementary Flying School: Basic Aircraft Maneuvers

Pay close attention, Rookie. Here's the essential information on how to fly a plane. Pay very close attention!

1. How to take-off:
Before starting the engine you must test all controls
Start the engine, slowly increase the throttle to get the plane rolling
Use the brake pedal and rudder to guide the plane onto the runway
Turn the plane into the wind
Deploy flaps to increase lift. Set rudder to middle position
Pull the throttle back to full power: 2100 rpms
Keep the plane straight into the wind
The plane may try to make a right turn due to engine torque. Use the control stick to keep the plane level
Once the rear wheel is off the ground pull back slowly on the stick and you are flying
Set the throttle to a middle setting. 1900 rpms

2. How to land
Turn the airplane into the wind. Line up the runway
Push in the throttle , push the control stick forward to start a gentle dive
Keep your airspeed around 80 knots
As you approach landing, cut the throttle to 800 rpm
Pull the control stick back to slightly raise the nose of the plane
Allow the plane to slowly "flare" or "drop" onto the ground
Do not apply ground brakes until the plane is rolling and losing speed
