Here are the basic controls in an airplane's cockpit:

1. Roll or turning indicator: Indicates how many degrees the plane has rolled left or right of level

2. Engine/Propeller r.p.m. gauge: Indicates engine/propeller revolutions

3. Oil pressure indicator: Indicates engine oil pressure ( low pressure = go home fast!)

4. Compass: Indicates direction relative to north

5. Airspeed indictor: Indicates current airspeed

6. Altimeter: Indicates height above sea level

7.Throttle: Controls engine speed

8. Rudder pedals: Assists with turning

9. Control stick or Yoke: Control ailerons and elevators. Controls climbing/diving and left/right turns

10. Radio/Intercom

11. Flaps control: Provides more or less lift for the wings.
