German Luftwaffe calls off further daytime air raids on London due to heavy aircraft losses and its failure to destroy the RAF. German bombers switch to nighttime raids to reduce their losses. While these continue to cause death and damage, they have no serious impact on the British war effort. From June to October the RAF shot down almost two thousand German aircraft destroyed, with 3500 German aircrew killed or captured. Even though RAF losses were almost as heavy, the RAF decisively won the "Battle of Britain". The planned German invasion of Britain was cancelled.
