"D" is the best answer - use every method possible. Good communications are essential to a successful attack but no method is completely reliable. Messenger runners can be shot or hit by artillery. Telephone line can be cut by shelling. Signal flares can be confusing, if both sides are using them. Air spotters are good - but they can only report what they see. Combining all these methods gives you the greatest chance of successful communications.
