Training in Britain - Part 1

In England the Canadians received their first serious training as soldiers. Their officers followed the pre-war British Army manuals - with a few additions from wartime experiences. The Canadians marched endlessly to build up their stamina, they practiced rifle and bayonet drill daily. They learned the basics of trench construction, co-ordination with artillery, and how to attack enemy trenches. They also learned to despise uppity British officers - who hated the rude, undisciplined Canadians.
